Growing up I was constantly teased about my name. I was often called "Egghead". The name was odd in the 1950's and there were no other Edgars in any of my schools. My name did not go well with my last name. People often could not pronounce a simple two syllable name... even adults. I would often catch a wince when I was introduced to others. My name was often slurred into my last name so that I became EggarEkker. Neither the first or last name was pronounced properly. I was very humiliated. I had to convince people to call me Ed. It affected my life. I often wonder what would my life had been like if I had my middle name as my first name. It was a more "normal" James. Jim or Jimmy would not have brought forth the derision that I felt in the 1950's and 60's.

in potuguese it is pronounced differently and english speakers have trouble with it, i like my name in my tongue but dislike in english

I've never met people with the same name, so there's only one edgar in my enviroment. Me. Having this special name is like being a special brand, cause I've always been a bit out of the norm. Stuff I consider as creative, others consider as trash, outside their understanding. So I guess my name has a strong influence on my life because of its unusuality
